Our friends at Burrencarragh Heritage Trust are currently seeking funding to have the microfilm of the Belfast News Letter digitised. The News Letter is one of the world's oldest surviving newspapers and has been published since 1737. The microfilm that the project will cover dates from 1737 - 1800. It would then be combined with an existing index to create a searchable online archive.

Here are 2 examples of the News Letter. This edition dates to 1798 and the second page covers the Battle of Saintfield which was one of the battles in the United Irishman's 1798 Rebellion.
